And here we are. After literally months of working on these things, the 2006 PEELie Council is proud to present to you the 2006 PEELie Awards Ceremony. *Fanfare*

It has been quite a different year for the PEELies. After creating a new forum and opening up the nominations to you, the public, we have created the first truly democratic PEELie Awards. I, for one, am proud of this accomplishment and I hope you all appreciate it as well (although I do expect some whining and complaining....hey it wouldn't be PEEL without it, right?)

Anyway, we have some celebrity appearances tonight as presenters including such famous PEELers as TheMadCapper and futurefreak! I'm sure the paparazzi is all over this place by now and the media will soon be bashing me as the worst PEELies host of all time....

We had some musical performances lined up from the Beardie Weirdies and The Secret Order of the Dave Masons, but neither showed up, so we'll just have to go from here. Without further ado, I present.....the speeches. And then the winners. Be patient.

Best New PEELer:

I ask you, what defines a "New Peeler"? Truly it is something unknown, mysterious, and inexplicable. The world may never know how to quantify exactly what makes... Oh, it says here it's people who joined in '06. Well then, that makes the rest of this speech pretty useless. I'll just skip to announcing the winner. Ladies, gentlemen, fake accounts, jerks, twerps, and nerds! It is my great pleasure to announce that...

Best NEW Username:

Usernames. We all have them. Some are insipid. Some have nothing to do with Futurama. Some are very small and some are spelled wrong. Some belong to Australians, unfortunately. And some are inspired. Out of the crop of '06 registered usernames, one has stuck out like a civilized person among Australians.

The award for Best New Username goes to....

Nerdlinger Award:

The Nerdlinger award is an honor conferred by nerds upon the person who they feel exemplifies nerdiness. This award is therefore a two-edged little statue. On one hand, it signifies nerdiness par excellance, as judged by a group of nerds, and if anyone knows nerdiness, it's nerds. On the other hand, it signifies that a bunch of nerds think you're even nerdier than they are, a cruel blow indeed. This year's Nerdlinger award winner is truly living the dream. Our winner is moving across the USA to work for a famous software company, plays DDR at speeds that make it look like he's having a controlled seizure, and though he has a girlfriend we didn't hold that against him, because she posts here too!

Nasty Pasty
The Big Brain Award:

Contrary to popular and long-accepted belief, PEEL was and still is home to the largest community of Futurama fanatics. And while many of the older PEELers have forsaken the dreaded forums, known today as “ON-TOPIC”, some PEELers regularly show their continued love and dedication to the show. From those fluent in the Alien Language to nerds that can recognize a random screenshot from any episode, these losers are the true heart and soul of PEEL.

But one always stands out from the crowd, and the PEELie for the Biggest Brain goes to:

PEEL Jailbait:

Ah, to be young again…Playing with your friends at the playground, going into town for ice cream, and repressed sexual abuse from crazy Uncle Morty; those were the days that we’ll cherish forever. And amazingly, some choose to throw all that away to join the social deathtrap that is PEEL. They make us laugh, they make us cry, they make us look and feel our ages and make us realize that we all missed out on childhood in one way or another.

Following in the footsteps of greats like Catindisguise, Futurama_Hil, and Aslate, these are the future leaders of the world….

And God help us all….

Best Older PEELer:

On the other side of the age spectrum are the older PEELers. Endowed with a wealth of knowledge and razor-sharp wits that can cut through your ego in 2 seconds flat, these older PEELers are some of the TRUE leaders of the Board.

And while they terrify us all, they continue to make us feel better by allowing us to realize that we’re younger and sexier than they are by comparison.

With this year’s nominees ranging from Cap’n Skusting and Teral to Mom_Rules and Ralph Snart, this year is the toughest race in the history of PEEL. And with heavyweight two-time champion Melllvar thrown into the mix as well, this will be a battle to remember.

But only one will survive to receive the PEELie:

Drama Queen "Award":

PEEL would not be PEEL without those annoying but lovable posts from our Drama Queens. This year's nominees sure have shown themselves this past year, throwing tantrums worthy of a 2-year-old. From classic Juliet rants to Slackit's knock-down drag-out battles that soon escape the original purpose of the argument, to Coldangel's "I AM NOT A SPAMMER!!!!" the competition was rough. However, only one winner could emerge to win the "award" of PEEL's favorite Drama Queen....

Best Sig:

Signature are rarely used, but can contain some precious gems. Some of them can be rather annoying or stupid, but some can actually be funny. This award goes out to that one person who took the time to use the "Reply" feature and attach the signature.

Sassiest PEELer:

Ah, the sassiest PEELer. This award is for the one who usually has nothing better to say, but just cannot pry themselves away from their keyboard. Our sassy PEELers just can't resist the urge to lay into their fellow PEELers and can cut them down with a simple post. One PEELer was more lethal at his craft than the others in the competition, however, and this year's Sassiest PEELer is...

Mr.MastodonFarm
Good evening, everyone. You may know me as the guy with the hillbilly bear avatar, and that's okay, but my name is actually Mr.MastodonFarm. Or maybe it's not. My real name doesn't matter, anyway. What is important, of course, are the PEELies… kinda. This year I'm proud to present a few awards, the first of which is…

Fantasy Mod Award:

Let's face it: PEEL's moderating class is in decline. Even Tweek is often elsewhere, perhaps too busy imprisoning teenage girls in his basement. I guess we'll never know if it true (probably) or not… but what we do know, or at least most of us here would agree, is that PEEL needs a few good moderators. As such, this year the citizens have spoken, and they have decided who, if possible, they would like to be their new dark internet overlord. May he be a benevolent dictator, and if not, may bannination come quickly and painlessly to us all! Tremble now, in the presence of…

PEELer Pic of the Year:

2006 was a great year in photographs for PEEL… or, if not great, at least it was prolific. Plenty of you saw fit to take pictures of yourself, whether by extending one arm at its fullest and snapping a photo, or by standing in front of a mirror… but let's face it, nobody remembers those shots, and I doubt anyone cared about your new t- shirt/haircut/beard. No, what the PEELing public remembers are the shocking, sometimes revolting images that are seared into our brains permanently. To all those of you willing to post such pictures of yourselves on the internet, I say thank you… except you, Nasty Pasty. Never do that again. Ever.

Anyway, this is getting longwinded, so let's get to the award… ladies and gentlemen, I give you the PEEL Pic of the Year:

Funniest PEELer:

Oh, that's not so bad. Here we go…

PEEL has a few funnymen, and plenty more who try their best to make us laugh. They may not be successful very often, but we all ought to appreciate the effort. Still, sometimes one needs a chuckle, perhaps even a guffaw… fortunately, one choice PEELer has boiled down comedy to a science, though it seems he may not be aware of it. He is an enigma, a being of incomparable hilarity and unparalleled stupidity, and we love him. I mean, I love him. We did it, baby! Come on, everybody, let's hear it for…

Best Fanartist:

That life is art and art is life, we heard from John Lennon and Yoko Ono. At these forums here, now many young up and coming artists, some old experts in the classes of fine arts and even here and now some people who just got simply caught by creativity and live out what ideas came up in their mind - they all enrich new every day this community with what they brought to life.

With Pencils or water colours, detailrich works or inspiring sketches, on paper or silk, with chalks on stone walls or caught by a camera: There are various ways to present visual arts. Some reached great popularity with their often enough daily effort, that today we will now honour one of those with this award here - that is as well just an artwork created by someone creative. And now, after being chosen by congratulators, commentators and critics, the award goes to ...

Best Fanfictionist:

Letters are meaningful and simple in the same ways and for an author itis the high challenge to put whole worlds of creativity, enriched with colourful details, into lines of letters and letters again. They can catch a reader, make her or him stay for a while, just to read those lines after lines of letters on a slightly radiating screen. If this went good, the written work will often enough gather a crowd around the author - a crowd of true loyal fans, helpful beta-readers, visual artists, logical critics and, yes, high expectations - for what might happen in the soon to be posted next chapter of the written storry.

To decide for this way and succesfully manage the pressure of expectations - the own and those of the fans - will not only get the cheers of the audience, but more: One of those artists - who have caught all those readers with their works - will be honoured today with this award here ... and the award goes to ...

Master Debator:

This is not meant to be controversial now, but ... as we all know controversions and debates dominate most of our lifes and even this statement here might be, well, discussed about. Something like this can end in disinterrest and dullness, but as well can also raise further interest and can be the nessecary spice in the delicious meal of life: Good debators it is about.

Heoes and heroines on the battlefield of hidden meanings and sneaking missunderstandings and well trained in the martial arts of rethoriocs. Knowledge is their weapon, doubt their security and their audience is a real challenge for them often enough. Some of them have talked themselves into the olympe of rhetorics and thrilling debates, but today only the opinion of one will stay in the ends - those of the voting community: Thus, without further discussions, the award, doubtlessly, goes to ...

Most Underrated PEELer:

PEEL has, undoubtedly, rewarded its favorite members through various awards throughout the years. With nearly six years of POTMs and PEELie awards, fresh faces to receive them are becoming quite rare. his award was made to honor one special PEELer whom the PEELies and POTM alike have escaped. Don't worry, buddy, your efforts have finally been recognized. Congratulations on your first PEEL award....

Drjunk As Fgjuck:

Being drjunk is cool, right? Well, maybe not, especially when you post on PEEL after drinking...

Some PEELers have taken their drunkenness to the extreme, going on drunken rampages both on and off our beloved message board. The drjunkest PEELer in our midst is, however, of course...

The Captain's Itch Award:

Truly new topics are rare indeed...few PEELers can come up with a topic which hasn't been discussed already by those nerds on PEEL. Most efforts at creating a new topic are thwarted by a combination of Nixorbo and the Search Feature. This award goes out to that one PEELer who was not only able to create a new thread worthy of creation, but did it more than once...

futurefreak
Most Valuable PEELer:

What makes a man turn valuable? His lust for gold PEELies? Power and prestige? Or were you just born with a heart full of valuability? I don't know what I just said, but at any rate this year's "MVP" award goes to...

Lifetime Achievement Award:

Really, this award could go to no other PEELer than the one who started it all. In less than a decade he has brought nerds, geeks, dweebs, dorks, smismars, and lovers of sci-fi related cartoons together in a community where some lasting friendships and even some romances began. Therefore I am very proud to present the Lifetime Achievement Award to...

Well folks, there you have it. The winners. Take the complaining to the PEELie discussion thread. Amazingly Faze didn't win a single thing... Thank you all for your participation in this years Awards and for your patience as we took nearly half a month to write those dang speeches.

I would personally like to thank those members of the Council who put time and effort into helping to make this year's PEELie Awards possible, and an extra big, super-dee-duper thanks to Marc for all he does for PEEL and for creating the PEELies Forum for us this year.

May 2007 be another good year for PEELing...
